Gate Keeping

According to Oxford dictionary, the definition of gate keeping is the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something. It was first introduced in 1947 by Kurt Lewin. At first, it was used to show the one in the family that controls the food on the dinner table. It was later used to depict food chains. In the 1950s, it started to appear in journalism. The act

of gate keeping is when multiple different news sites are looked at but then only a few goes out to the general public. This can create differing groups of people with very strong beliefs on either side. This happens because through gate keeping, they are only able to see one side of a story. We can see this in some of today's media and new sites only showing one side of a story or conflict and not saying anything about the opposing views. This can lead to people being more one-sided and less open-minded.
